WASHINGTON, October 30, 2007 - The following projects were approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:
IDA GRANT: US$15 million grant
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Bolivia Land for Agricultural Development Project aims at establishing a decentralized, beneficiary-driven land access vehicle that helps organized landless or poor farmers acquire suitable agricultural land and make related agricultural investments. The project has three components. The first component consists of a revolving line of credit to finance land purchases. Productive Associations of beneficiary farmers will be responsible for repayment of the land acquisition loans with the acquired lands serving as collateral. The second component is for the provision of matching grants for infrastructure and productive investments on the purchased lands. The third and final component covers project management, technical assistance, monitoring and evaluation.
