WASHINGTON, November 13, 2007 - The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:
IDA CREDIT: US$3.9 million credit
TERMS: Maturity=40 years; Grace period=10 years
GEF Trust Fund Grant: $5.4 million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The objective of the “West Africa Regional Biosafety Project” is to help eight countries –- Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal, and Togo -– to establish and implement a shared biosafety regulatory framework by putting in place necessary environmental and social safeguards, thereby enabling them to meet their obligations under the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CPB).
