 | Specialization: Waste Management and Environmental Remediation and Protection Languages: English Sandra Cointreau is a civil sanitary engineer with more than 35 years of experience in planning, design, applied research, and project development. She has lead cutting edge global knowledge development on private sector involvement, economic instruments, livestock wastes management, social inclusion of the informal sector, occupational health and safety issues, and holistic technology assessment in waste management and site remediation. She has worked on all categories of wastes including: municipal solid waste, medical wastes, hazardous wastes, and livestock wastes, including carcass disposal from animal disease outbreaks. She has been a contributor to the Bank safeguards and environmental, health and safety guidelines at each phase of their development. Her work has included consultancy assignments with substantial field work in over 55 developing countries for various international agencies, including USAID, GTZ, DANIDA, UNDP, IADB, EBRD, ADB, WHO and the World Bank. She has worked on a number of emergency projects, doing field work in Iraq, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Palestine. She has been the Bank's Solid Waste Management Advisor since 2004.
