Brazil: Sergipe State Integrated Project: Rural Poverty

WASHINGTON, September 23, 2008- The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:

 

IDA Credit: US$100 million

TERMS: Maturity = 20 years; Grace= 5 years

Project Description: This project aims to generate productive activities through local associations and cooperatives, boosting the income of small farmers in Sergipe, while guaranteeing employment and development and improving the quality of life of individuals. The loan will help build capacity in rural communities to organize themselves collectively and meet their own needs; improve the local governance of community organizations and Municipal Councils; and promote greater integration of rural development policies, programs, and projects at the local level.
