  • October 8, 2008—The earthquake that hit Pakistan three years ago is arguably the biggest natural disaster in the country’s history. But the millions of people left homeless by the quake have, for the most part, moved back into new homes---new, safer homes.

The earthquake destroyed and damaged around 600,000 homes and killed more than 73,000 people. Over 3 million were left without shelter. The scale of the destruction, and the difficult mountainous terrain made reconstruction a daunting task.  The government created the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) and launched a $1.5 billion US dollar rebuilding program.
