Madagascar - Emergency Food Security and Reconstruction Project

WASHINGTON, December 16, 2008 - The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:

 

IDA Credit:  US$40 million

TERMS: Maturity = 40 years; Grace = 10 years

Project Description:   The project will assist the government in (i) increasing access to short-term employment in targeted food-insecure areas; and (ii) restoring access to social and economic services following natural disasters in targeted communities.  The project would comprise four components:  1) Social safety net; 2) Community-driven basic infrastructure; 3) Rehabilitation and reconstruction in response to natural disasters; and 4) project management, monitoring and evaluation, and audit.
