Democratic Republic of Congo: Urban Water Supply Project

Available in: Français

WASHINGTON, December 18, 2008 - The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:

IDA Grant: US$190 Million

Project Description: The Urban Water Supply Project for the Democratic Republic of Congo aims to increase access to water in selected urban areas and increase the efficiency of REGIDESO (State Water Utility Company - DRC). There are two components to the project. The first component will improve and expand water supply services in major urban centers. The second component will support sector reform, capacity building, and improved governance. This component will also: (i) contribute to the sustainability of investments funded by other donors in the sector; and (ii) enable REGIDESO to initiate rehabilitation in other centers across the country using cash generated in the profitable centers, and therefore proceed to the extension of water provision in cities which are not benefiting from the investments under component first.
