Indonesia: Rural Community Empowerment Project

WASHINGTON, April 14, 2009 - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved the following project:

  

IBRD Loan: US$300 million

TERMS:  Maturity = 24.5 years; Grace period = 9 years

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project will contribute to the realization of the National Program for Community Empowerment’s (PNPM's) overall development goals, namely to reduce poverty and improve local-level governance in rural areas of Indonesia through the provision of investment resources to support productive proposals developed by communities, using a participatory planning process.  The project consists of (i) block grants; (ii) facilitation support; (iii) goods, consultants' services, training and workshops; and (iv) incremental operating costs.
