Bangladesh: Clean Air and Sustainable Environment Project

WASHINGTON, May 12, 2009 - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved the following projects:

Bangladesh: Clean Air and Sustainable Environment Project

 

IDA Credit: US$62.2 million equivalent

TERMS: Maturity = 40 years; Grace = 10 years

Project Description: The objective of the Clean Air and Sustainable Environment Project in  Bangladesh is to improve air quality and safe mobility in Dhaka. The project provides technical assistance and funding to implement environmental initiatives in the air polluting sections in Bangladesh. It also aims to improve the policies and regulations governing those sectors in order to improve air quality and the quality of life of Bangladeshi citizens. The project will also help strengthen the institutional, policy, and regulatory framework for public transport, and help mainstream environmental considerations into general urban transport policy.
