Cambodia: Smallholder Agriculture and Social Protection Support Operation under the Global Food Response Program

WASHINGTON, July 9, 2009 - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved the following project:

Cambodia: Smallholder Agriculture and Social Protection Support Operation under the Global Food Response Program

IDA Credit: US$5 million equivalent

Terms:  Maturity = 40 years; Grace period = 10 years

GFRP Grant: US$8 million equivalent

Project ID: P117203

Project Description: The Smallholder Agriculture and Social Protection Support Operation for Cambodia aims to complement the Royal Government of Cambodia’s efforts to address weaknesses in smallholder agricultural production and social protection systems which have come to light during the Food Price Crisis. As an emergency operation, the proposed operation was not anticipated under the current CAS though its focus on governance elements is consistent with the central focus of the Bank’s support to Cambodia.
