Brazil: State of Sao Paulo and Sao Paulo State Water Utility: Integrated Water Management in Metropolitan Sao Paulo

WASHINGTON, July 9, 2009 - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved the following project:

 

IBRD Loan: US$130 million

Terms: Maturity = 30 years; Grace Period = 5 years (GESP Loan Portion)

Terms: Maturity = 25 years; Grace Period = 5 years (SABESP Loan Portion)

Project ID: P006553

 

Project Description: The Integrated Water Management in Metropolitan Sao Paulo aims to: (i) to protect and maintain the quality and reliability of Metropolitan Region of Sao Paulo's (MRSPs) water resources and potable water sources; (ii) to improve the quality of life of the poor populations residing in key targeted urban river basins in MRSP; and (iii) to strengthen institutional capacity and improve metropolitan management and coordination in MRSP in water resources management, water pollution control, land-use policy and basic service provision.
