Available in: Français

WASHINGTON, October 22, 2009 - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved the following project:

IDA Grant: US$350 million equivalent

IBRD Loan: US$130 million

Terms: Maturity = 30 years; Grace Period = 10 years

Project ID: P113220

Project Description: The objective of the Productive Safety Net Project (PSNP) in Ethiopia is to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the PSNP and related Household Asset Building Program (HABP) for chronically food insecure households in rural Ethiopia. Safety net grants will provide cash and in-kind transfers to chronically food insecure households through: (i) labor-intensive public works that provide transfers to able-bodied households; and (ii) direct support that provides transfers to labor-poor households. The second component of the project is drought risk financing, which aims to provide timely resources for transitory food insecurity in response to shocks within the existing program areas. The third component of the project is institutional support for the PSNP. The fourth and the final component of the project is support to the HABP.
