Malawi: Combating AIDS
Overview:

Roughly 12% of the population in Malawi is living with AIDS. The government of Malawi is concentrating on ways to help people with the disease make an income and looking after the AIDS orphans who will form a large part of the future generation.

  • Washington DC, December 1, 2009—Building up a positive approach to a future with AIDS and giving people with HIV/AIDS a reason to live is important to the government of Malawi. Through a Social Action Fund supported by the World Bank, it has created a public works program that enables the poorest of the poor to earn an income income.
