Diggin’ for Development! The Evolutionary Approach to Mining Reform
Mining is one of the most important economic activities in a growing number of low and middle-
income countries. But mining is not easy; it needs investments, creativity, know-how and
political will.
The World Bank was called upon to support the design of mining policies and laws to help
countries become not only more attractive to private investment but also more effective in
managing and sharing the mining revenues for the benefit of all people, particularly the
poorest.
In this first edition of our series Diggin’ for Development! Gary McMahon, Senior Mining
Specialist in the Oil, Gas and Mining Unit at the World Bank talks about The World Bank’s
Evolutionary Approach to Mining Sector Reform.
