To accomplish its mission, the Bank needs the commitment of bright and dedicated people from around the world to work at its Washington headquarters and in over 100 country offices. Career positions as well as short-term assignments as junior professionals or interns are available. Most advertised positions are located at Bank headquarters, where fluency in English is required. Young Professionals Program Designed for highly qualified and motivated young people who are skilled in areas relevant to the Bank's operations. To be eligible, candidates must:
- Be a citizen of a member country of the Bank
- Be 32 years of age or younger when entering the Program (for example, candidates for 2004 must have a birthdate on or after January 1, 1972.)
- Have a master's degree or equivalent
- Be fluent in English
- Specialize in a field relevant to the Bank's operations such as economics, finance, education, public health, social sciences, engineering, urban planning, and natural resource management
- Have significant relevant professional experience or continued academic study at the doctoral level
Initial appointments are for two years. Many Young Professionals have joined the Bank for full careers. SHORT-TERM OPPORTUNITIES Junior Professional Associates Program This two-year, entry-level program is for recent graduates with superior academic records and an interest in international work. Applicants must:
- Be under 29 years old
- Hold the equivalent of a bachelor's or master's degree, or be a Ph.D. candidate
Associates are not eligible for employment with the Bank for two years following the end of their appointment. The Bank Internship Program Interns receive a salary as they improve their professional skills while working on a variety of projects. Candidates must be nationals of a Bank member country and enrolled full-time in a master's or Ph.D. degree study program.
Two programs are available, although specific dates may vary according to university schedules: - Winter (November - January)
- Summer (May- September)
Knowledge Internship Program This year-round program is open to full-time students in undergraduate and graduate programs. Interns typically earn course credits for their work and do not receive financial compensation.
Consultant Trust Fund Program (CTF) The CTF program is funded by tied grants from some 25 participating donor countries. It provides resources that complement the Bank's own budget, financing consultants (individuals or firms) who are hired to carry out operational work on behalf of the Bank.
