Youth in Governance

 

Brief Description:

Through this competition, the private sector, academic institutions and student councils, non-governmental organizations and the civil society at large will be asked to propose innovative initiatives that enable the youth to better understand their duties, exercise their rights, discourage brain drain and inspire strong bonds between the Diaspora Lebanese and their motherland

Competition sub themes include: Elections and youth Parliament; Accountability and transparency on a national level; Accountability and transparency on a local (municipal) level; Empowerment in political parties; Empowerment in student councils; Anti-corruption network; Publications and media outreach; Youth in civic education; Youth and political participation; Youth and human rights; Youth and economic governance; Youth and gender; Youth in justice reform ; Youth and rule of law; Youth and national policies dialogue; Building bridges with youth in the Diaspora

Important Dates:

  • Competition Launched on:                             November 24, 2005
  • Deadline for Proposals:                                  January 5, 2006
  • Announcement of Finalists:                            February 2, 2006
  • Competition and Awards Ceremony:               March, 2006

Amount of Awards: 

  • Maximum award size US$20,000

Eligibility Criteria:

The following groups are eligible to apply:

  • Youth groups
  • Local communities
  • National NGOs
  • Academic institutions, (private or public)

The following groups may also apply if their project is in partnership with one of the above:

  • Private Sector Enteprises
  • Government Institutions
  • Individuals

The following activities CANNOT be supported through the Lebanon DM:

Research programs, formal academic training programs, ongoing projects, ongoing institutional core support, scholarships, fellowships, study programs, or individuals applying on their own behalf.

 

Assessment Criteria:

Proposals will be assessed according to the following criteria:

  • Clarity of Objectives
  • Outcome/Impact
  • Innovation.
  • Implementation Timeframe
  • Administration and Implementation Ability: Funding Required:
  • Engagement of the Youth.
  • Relevance/Ownership 
  • Sustainability/Replicability

The Lebanon DM is organized by the World Bank, in partnership with:

  • The Foreign and Commonwealth Office – Global Opportunities Fund (GOF)
  • United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
  • United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
  • The Lebanese Transparency Association (LTA)

 

Knowledge Exchange:

  • Educational session relevant to Youth in Governance will be organized to coincide with the finalist competition in March, 2006.
