Maximum award size is US$ 30,000 per winner. 
 
Eligibility Criteria:

  • The competition is open to entrepreneurs, including private micro, small and medium scale enterprises with up to 50 employees
  • Proposals must be submitted by an enterprise or groups of enterprises that are legally registered or in partnership with one that is legally registered.
  • Proposals need to demonstrate a profit orientation.
  • Proposals must be implemented in a country participating in the 2006 Drivers of Growth - Iinnovative Ideas of the West African Entrepreneur (Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Senegal).
  • The maximum award size will be approximately US$30,000; awards to winners vary in size according to cost-efficient needs outlined in their proposals.
  • Projects should be implemented within a timeframe of 12 months from receiving initial disbursement from the grant.
  • Proposals must be typed.
  • Proposals must be submitted in French and must not exceed six pages. Projects that exceed six pages will not qualify for the competition.
  • Proposals must be submitted by 5:00 PM on April 27, 2006

*Past winners:  If your project is already being funded by the World Bank Group or if you are a past DM winner (at global or country-level), you may submit a proposal that is significantly different from the project or idea for which you have received funding.  You may not submit the same idea or project.  If you have submitted a proposal to the current global DM, you may not be eligible to send a proposal for this DM. Criteria for Evaluation of Proposals:
Proposals will be assessed according to the following criteria:

  • Innovation – The proposal must demonstrate non-conventional and creative approaches.  Projects seeking to expand existing initiatives are eligible, provided that they exhibit new elements in design or implementation not found in the original initiatives.
  • Results – Proposals will have to demonstrate (through measurable results) the ability of the entrepreneur to grow and thrive in the local and/or regional economy.
  • Sustainability – The project must demonstrate the ability to be self sustaining (covering its financial and operational costs) within a reasonable implementation period.
