Global Competition Process

Available in: Español, Français
All innovators, including academics, civil society groups, government agencies, private corporations, and social entrepreneurs, are encouraged to submit a brief proposal outlining their idea. Global competitions typically receive around 2500 proposals, which undergo a thorough review process.

Selecting DM Finalists
Over 200 technical experts from inside and outside the World Bank Group review eligible proposals in at least two rounds of assessment, where each proposal is read by at least 3 specialists. They select the ideas with the greatest potential, according to pre-determined assessment criteria. These finalists complete an in-depth proposal and compete in-person during the final round at the Marketplace.

The Marketplace
The Marketplace is hosted at World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C. There, members of a high-profile jury comprised of senior World Bank managers and prominent development professionals from other organizations interview the finalists and select the projects to receive grant funding. World Bank Group staff, potential funders, sector experts, development specialists, service providers and members of the general public are all invited to attend the Marketplace and meet the DM finalists.

Each Marketplace also features a Knowledge Exchange, designed to engage the finalists with other representatives of the international development community through structured discussions and seminars. This provides an opportunity to highlight their work, learn about other funding opportunities, discuss common project implementation issues and share best practices.
