Global Competitions

Available in: Français, Español

The Global Development Marketplace is held every 12-18 months and is open to all ideas that meet the published eligibility criteria. Awards range from US$50,000 to US$200,000 while the average award size is roughly US$140,000.

Each global competition theme addresses some of the most demanding challenges in a particular sector. Themes rotate across sectors – past areas of focus included the environment, and energy, water, and sanitation.

Since inception, the Global DM competitions have disbursed over US$28 million in awards to 201 winning proposals. These projects are being implemented in more than 60 countries by a wide array of development actors including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic institutions, private businesses and government agencies. The results from the global competitions help to inform thinking and knowledge-sharing within the World Bank and the development community-at-large.
