 South Asia Region Development Marketplace Application:  Closed Event: May 15, 2008

"Tackling HIV/AIDS Stigma and Discrimination: From Insights to Action", the theme for this regional competition, targets  Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Stigma and discrimination have been identified as major obstacles to scaling up HIV prevention services in all South Asian countries and by all national programs, development partners and community-based organizations.  This DM will support initiatives using innovative approaches to fight the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV and AIDS. The competition has raised more than $500,000 from UNICEF, UNAIDS and Norway. It received more than 1,000 submissions. 

 Lighting Africa Development Marketplace Grant Competition Application: Closed Event: May 6-8, 2008

This regional competition aims to identify and fund design and delivery of low cost, high quality, non-fossil fuel-based lighting products targeting low income consumers in Sub-Saharan Africa. The DM is part of the broader Lighting Africa program managed by the World Bank Group which seeks to reach 250 million customers with modern, affordable lighting by 2030.

 Ukraine, Belarus-Moldova-Ukraine Youth DM Competition Application:  Closed Event: April 4, 2008

"Choose Your Future Today: Improving Work Opportunities and Developing Healthy Lifestyles for Young People," an ECA regional competition, invites youth organizations and other civil society groups to submit proposals addressing the main issues facing youth in Moldova, Belarus and Ukraine. Nearly 300 applicants submitted applications to the competition.

 BoliviaEcuador Development Marketplace Application: Jan 27- April 21 Event: June 7, 2008

This year's LAC regional marketplace addresses migration and remittances, which account for 8.7 and 7.8 percent of Bolivian and Ecuadorian gross domestic product, respectively. Productive innovations will include financially sustainable models to help families affected by migration and using remittances for productive activities such as generating income and local employment. The themes are "Together we will create a future" in Ecuador, and "I leave but I stay" in Bolivia. The joint event will be held on June 7 in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

 Nepal Development Marketplace Application:  March 2 - April 17, 2008 Event: May 15, 2008 

Nepal's DM is focused on promoting fresh thinking and new ideas about the delivery of basic services and expanding livelihood opportunities to rural populations to secure peace through development.

 China Development Marketplace Application: Closed Event: June 4, 2008

China's second DM competition aims to serve as a platform for local civil society organizations, businesses, individuals and foundations to identify and support innovative bottom-up development ideas. The competition received nearly 400 applications representing 26 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.

 Papua New Guinea Application: Closed Event: May 31, 2008

Papua New Guinea's second DM focuses on a theme of youth and development.
