What are the definitions of the fields in Contract Awards database?

The Contract Awards database uses the following fields, listed below in alphabetical order.  Field names that are underlinese are searchable on the Contract Awards Search page.   Click on an underlined name to go directly to the search page.

 

Bid Opening Date

The date that bids for the contract were first accepted.

Contract Amount

See Total Contract Amount, below.

Contract Description

The name of the contract as it appears in the signed agreement. Use Keywords to search by this name.

Contract Signing Date

The name of the contract as it appears in the signed agreement.

Contractor Country

See Supplier Country, below.

Contractor Name

The name of the contractor, supplier or consultant who submitted the winning bid or proposal. The name of the manufacturer, Joint Venture partners, sub-contractor, and/or sub-consultants may not appear. Use Keywords to search by this name.

Keywords

The Keyword search includes words from the following fields: supplier, contract description, project name, Project ID, major loan or credit number, procurement group, procurement type, procurement method, project country or region, project major sector/sector, supplier country.

Main Loan/ Credit #

Approved projects provide funds to the borrower as a loan or a credit.  Each loan or credit agreement is assigned a unique number to track it through the World Bank's financial systems.  More than one loan or credit may be associated with one project, however we currently display only one.  See the Project database field definitions for more details. Use Keywords to search by this number.

Procurement Group

To narrow down search results, searches can be limited to one of these categories: Consultants or Goods and Works. 

   Procurement Method

The method used for selecting a contractor, supplier or consultant.  The method used depends upon the Procurement Group.  Various methods appropriate to each group are listed in the drop-down menu. 

Procurement Type

The overall purpose of the work or services performed under the contract, or the broad categorization of goods acquired.   The type depends upon the Procurement Group.  Various types appropriate to each group are listed in the drop-down menu.

Project Country/Region

All contract awards are associated with a project listed in the World Bank Projects database.  This field is used to select the   country or region  in which the project is being implemented.   For the contractor's country of origin, use Supplier Country. 

Project ID

All contract awards are associated with a project listed in the World Bank Projects database.  A unique number is assigned to every lending project when it is first defined in the World Bank's work program.  This identifier enables information to be intregrated from multiple World Bank information systems.  (Format is Pxxxxxx.)  Use Keywords to search by this number.

Project Major Sector/Sector

All contract awards are associated with a project listed in the World Bank Projects database.    Sectors indicate which part of the economy is being supported by the project.  Major Sectors regroup several sectors into one category.   Although a contract may pertain to only one sector, this information is only available at the level of the entire project.

Project Name

All contract awards are associated with a project listed in the World Bank Projects database. Use Keywords to search for this name.

Signing Date

See Contract Signing Date, above.

Supplier Country

The country of origin for the contractor/supplier/consultant to whom the contract was awarded.   For the country where the work is being performed, or the goods are being delivered, use Project Country/Region.

Total Contract AmountThe contract award specifies a total amount which the contract cannot exceed. The amount is listed in USD$ millions.  Usually, the amount displayed under Total Contract Amount and Contract Amount is the same.  If it is different, the total amount has been split between two or more contractors.  For example, see   this contract for a road in the Northern Mountains Poverty Reduction Project.
