Afghanistan: Second Additional Financing for Health Sector Emergency Reconstruction and Development Project

WASHINGTON, May 15, 2008- The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:

IDA Grant: US$ 20  million

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The second additional grant aims to assist Afghanistan in: (a) reducing infant and child mortality, maternal mortality, child malnutrition and increasing access to reproductive health through the expansion of basic health care services; (b) increasing MOPH’s stewardship over the sector; and (c) build the capacity of Afghan health workers to better provide and manage health services.
