Small States and the Financial Crisis

To date, there have been three sequential efforts to track the impact of the financial crisis on small states: (i) a brief prepared for the World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings in April 2009; (ii) a two-day symposium organized June 2-3, 2009, by the Economic Policy and Debt Department of the World Bank’s Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Network (the presentation by the Bank’s Operations Policy and Country Services Network is available as are many of the other presentations as well as brief interviews (below) with some of the small state officials at the symposium; and a "Sustaining Development in Small States in a Turbulent Global Economy" symposium organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat, held in July 2009.
