| This workshop was sponsored by the World Bank, OECD/DAC, the European Commission, and UNDP on October 28-29, 2002, at the World Bank headquarters in Paris.
Representatives of bilateral and multilateral development agencies, civil society, and individuals from developing countries gathered to discuss challenges and approaches to providing development assistance in fragile countries -- country environments characterized by exceptionally weak policies, institutions, and governance.
The objectives of the joint workshop were threefold:

To work towards a joint vision;

To consult and dialogue with other stakeholders, including representatives from developing countries; and,
-
To demonstrate the commitment by the donor community to improving their assistance despite the difficulties in this context.
