The growth of civil society has been one of the most significant trends in international development. This website will provide you with information and materials on the World Bank's evolving relationship with civil society. More  | | | Consultations on the Global Partnership for Enhanced Social Accountability | The World Bank Group (WBG) is launching consultations for a new Global Partnership for Enhanced Social Accountability. The objective of the Partnership is to strengthen beneficiary feedback and participation, including through supporting civil society capacity to engage with governments to improve development outcomes. The Partnership would focus on supporting civil society working in the area of social accountability. As part of its development, the WBG is holding public consultations seeking multi-stakeholder views throughout the development of the Partnership, from January through June 2012. They represented a variety of constituencies: non-governmental organizations, youth groups, foundations, faith-based groups, academics and trade unions. |  | CSOs Assess Results of 2011 Annual Meetings: The World Bank and IMF Civil Society Teams solicited feedback from CSO representatives on the 2011 Annual Meetings. In general, respondents gave high marks for the logistics and policy sessions, as well as for the overall usefulness of the Civil Society Policy Forum, while providing useful critique and suggestions on how to improve the CS Forum in the future. More... |  | Zoellick Calls for Support of Civil Society in the Middle East: The recent democratic uprisings in the Middle East served as the backdrop for a major speech given by Bank President Robert Zoellick on the emerging role of civil society. The speech, “The Middle East and North Africa: A New Social Contract for Development” given at Washington’s Peterson Institute on April 6, may well mark a watershed in Bank – civil society relations.
