Annual and Spring Meetings

Available in: العربية, Español, Français
The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund hold two global meetings – Annual and Spring Meetings – each year to discuss a range of issues related to poverty reduction and international economic development, as well as to assess the work program of both institutions.  These meetings bring together not only the ministers who represent the 184 governments which comprise the Board of Governors of the Bank and the Fund,  but hundreds of other government officials, donor agency leaders, academics, civil society leaders, and journalists.  During these meeting, Bank staff typically carry out several dozen dialogue and consultation meetings with participating CSOs on a range of topics.

For example, during the past five Meetings heads of the World Bank, IMF, Development Committee and IMFC participated in Town Hall meetings with CSOs and answered their questions.  During the 2006 Annual Meetings held in Singapore, some 200 representatives of CSOs from Africa, Latin America, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, the U.S., and Western Europe participated in some 20 different discussion seminars with senior Bank and IMF staff. The CSO representatives also had an informal dialogue meeting with the President of the World Bank and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund.  Heads of the two organizations also participated in a more formal Town Hall Meeting with CSOs.  Issues discussed included Singapore government's refusal to allow some CSO activists to enter the country, debt relief, and governance issues.
