Yet, the ability of States to fulfill their obligations is increasingly constrained by trade rules and negotiations, as well as financial arrangements with International Financial Institutions. The session explored what an integrated approach to shape both trade and financial policies from a human rights perspective would look like. In doing this, it used the agriculture sector as a case study. It also exampled what policy space States need to fulfill their human rights obligations and where key actors like the WTO and WB stand in regard to these connections. The Bank in the strategy proposes a new business model for how it will promote social development in an integrated approach that reflects three strategic priorities – more macro, better projects and better grounding. The key question that this Q&A addressed was: “How is the World Bank translating its commitment to social development principles into action?” World Bank Social Development website Presentation by Steen Jorgensen Panelists: Steen Jorgensen, Director, Social Development Department (World Bank); Caroline Kende Robb, Sector Manager, Social Development Department (World Bank); Manish Bapna, Executive Director, Bank Information Center.
