The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund hold two annual meetings – Annual and Spring Meetings – each year to discuss a range of issues related to poverty reduction and international economic development, as well as to assess the work program of both institutions. These meetings bring together not only the ministers who represent the 185 governments which comprise the Board of Governors of the Bank and the Fund, but government officials, donor agency representatives, academics, civil society leaders, and journalists. The 2007 Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund were held over the weekend of October 20 - 22 at the World Bank and IMF Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Over the past several years, the World Bank and International Monetary Fund’s Civil Society Teams have organized a series of policy dialogue sessions – now named Civil Society Policy Forum - for civil society representatives participating in the Annual and Spring Meetings. These policy discussions are on topics to be presented at the Development Committee of the Bank and Fund Boards or on issues brought by CSOs and have ranged from macro economic policies and poverty reduction, to environment. Many of these sessions are organized by CSOs or hosted jointly with the Bank and/or Fund, and are generally made up of panels which include: civil society representatives; Bank and Fund Executive Directors and staff; government officials; academics; and others. The Civil Society Policy Forum at the 2007 Annual Meetings was held on October 18 - 22 and included some 30 policy dialogue sessions. 2007 Civil Society Policy Forum Past Policy Forums The Civil Society Policy Forum is only one of the activities available to accredited CSOs during the Annual Meetings. CSO representatives could also attend the Program of Seminars discussions, which this year was held on Friday, October 19. They were also able to attend Annual Meetings plenary session which is part of the official program of the Annual Meetings, and had an opportunity to interact with senior Bank and Fund officials and members of the press attending the Meetings.
All CSOs wishing to participate in the Annual or Spring Meetings needed to obtain formal accreditation. The online accreditation system to accept CSO applications opened on August 1, 2007 and closed on September 21, 2007.
