United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) launches a Call for Proposals for its grant funding. Applications will be accepted through December 18, 2007. Civil Society Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations engaged in promoting democracy and human rights, are eligible for UNDEF grant funding and are anticipated to receive the bulk of the funding.
UNDEF will look for projects that lead to fostering better relations between civil society and the insitutions of governance, including executive and constitutional bodies. All successful proposals must ensure that projects are sensitive to gender issues which should be explicitly addressed and that greater participation of women in democratization is a likely outcome of the project.
Grants are awarded for a two-year period and budgets can not exceed $500,000. Current grantees are also eligible to apply during this second round for new projects.
Women’s organizations are encouraged to apply! Please note that if you don't think you have the capacity to develop the proposal and execute the funding, representatives of UNIFEM (UN Development Fund for Women) are willing to assist and support you in that regard.
