Strategy Consultation

Feedback from our clients, partners in other development institutions, the private sector, civil society, and the academia was essential to the strategy preparation process. This page summarizes the consultation process held in various developing and developed countries.

The Consultation Feedback was based on a discussion draft, Toward an Environment Strategy for the World Bank: Progress Report/Discussion Draft, April 2000, and the six draft regional strategies. Please see link to document below.

Between May 2000 and June 2001, over 30 formal and informal meetings or working sessions took place in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa, South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Japan, and the North America.

A broad-based information dissemination and feedback process also took place through e-mail and the Internet. In addition to the main Strategy Consultation website, the Latin America and the Caribbean Region and the Europe and Central Asia Region organized separate but linked online discussions that were regionally focused.

The consultation process and feedback are described in details below in Annex J of the Environment Strategy.
