While we have made a significant progress in promoting environmental sustainability, expectations and our own commitments have often outpaced our capacity to deliver. We have learned that in order to be effective, we have to demonstrate the benefits of environmental improvement and the links between environment and development objectives; respond to our clients' aspirations and concerns; and help build development and environmental challenges.
With our limited resources, we must concentrate on where we have a comparative advantage to:
- Encourage countries to adopt policies and incentives for efficient and sustainable use of natural resources
- Work across sectors to enhance the environmental outcome of sectoral projects and programs
- Help develop and implement projects that focus on critical environmental problems
- Bring together groups of countries and stakeholders to address common problems.
