One of the major challenges in implementing sustainable development is to ensure that health and environmental goals are successfully integrated into sustainable development policies and programs at the most appropriate and effective level (local, regional or global).
For many environmental issues, there is increasing recognition of the interdependence between access to and impacts upon resources, such as clean air, water, land and energy, their transboundary nature, and the need to address such issues from a global perspective.
To better address these issues, the World Bank is engaged in a number of global partnerships dealing with environmental issues, ranging from climate change, addressing the global effect of pollutants, the conducting of global assessments, to the establishment of global networks for sustainable resource use, conservation, and knowledge sharing.
The current number of active global partnerships can be accessed in the box to the right. Other globally-based partnerships can also be found under the other two partnerships sub-categories on the left.
