The World Bank Group is one of the three Implementing Agencies of the Global Environment Facility(GEF). As an Implementing Agency, the World Bank Group is committed to assisting its client countries in their effort to address the objectives of the global conventionsfor which the GEF is the financial mechanism.
The World Bank Group assistance, however, goes far beyond transferring GEF grants for eligible projects to committing own resources for these projects, broader country assistance dialogue and regular lending program relating to client countries' national sustainable development programs.
Through its vast project experiences, the World Bank Groups' conviction that actions to improve the global environment often enhance national sustainable development and reduce poverty has become strong.
