Program Description

There are two components of the pilot program. The first component provided grants and specialized assistance to support SEA pilots linked to Bank’s activities. Overall, it is expected that 8 pilot SEAs will be completed. The second component is the evaluation of the pilots in order to draw lessons on methods and processes for effective institution-centered SEA. This component is conducted in partnership with the Environmental Economics Unit at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, the Swedish EIA Centre, and the Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment (NCEA).

Pilots are eligible under the following criteria.

  • Potential to influence programmatic or policy-based loans.
  • Fully integrated into Bank's projects vi's-à-vi's the Bank’s main instruments
  • Led by regional Task Team Leaders
  • Use methods and approaches considered in the Bank's analytical work and the OECD DAC guidance
  • Provide new learning opportunities
