Abstract
Despite the WBG’s commitment to biodiversity and natural resources management, the portfolio has declined in the past two years raising serious concerns among senior management and environmental staff. This paper studies the factors that have contributed to such decline and assesses whether new approaches are needed to reverse this trend. It attempts to do this, by better understanding how biodiversity is incorporated in the WBG and how the WBG can enhance its role in biodiversity and ecosystems protection and management as a key ingredient to reach development sustainability.
