Author: Glenn-Marie Lange, Senior Environmental Economist

PDF file Draft Concept Note (updated November 24, 2009)

Abstract
This paper will identify where valuation of ecosystem services is most critical and how to ensure that valuation is done properly in those cases. It has the the following objectives:

1. Review the extent to which the valuation of environmental services and impacts has been included in analytical as well as operational work (design, implementation and monitoring & evaluation), and the quality of the valuation component.

2. Identify the impacts that environmental valuation has had on project design, policy and other outcomes such as national budget allocations to environment and natural resource ministries.

3. Identify the kinds of analytical work and projects where rigorous, in-depth environmental valuation has had the greatest impact and those where it has had little or no impact.
