Biosafety

One tenet of the Bank’s environment strategy includes building capacity in developing countries, enabling them to better meet their multilateral environmental commitments, including the Convention on Biological Diversity and its Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CPB).  The CPB addresses the safe transfer, handling, and use of living modified organisms resulting from modern biotechnology that may have adverse effects on biodiversity as well as human health, and focuses on transboundary movements.
