There are a number of key themes that are critical components of coastal and marine systems and their management. The left menu presents several of the current issues that are the focus of many World Bank projects and activities, ranging from national level projects, to regional and global initiatives.
Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) serves as an important organizing principle in addressing coastal development. The application of ICM can have postive results on other themes, such as Biodiversity, Fisheries and the demarcation and management of Marine Protected Areas. Each theme is potentially affected when development occurs along the coasts, or when resources are extracted or altered.
