The Trade, Macroeconomic Reform, and the Environment project was aimed at analyzing key issues in the debate on trade and the environment, and engaged policy-makers and academics in developing and industrialized countries. As a result of a symposium organized in 1998, the World Bank published Trade, Global Policy and the Environment, 1999, a follow-up to the widely cited volume on International Trade and the Environment published by the Bank in 1992. In addition to the papers produced by the Policy and Economics Team itself, a number of contributions were made from other World Bank departments, outside academics, and Non-governmental Organizations.
