Education

Education is key to poverty alleviation.

Bank-funded education projects are very often focusing on the 'soft' side of education systems reforms and capacity building, both of which have very few direct environmental and social impacts.

When Bank-funded education projects result in the construction or the major upgrading of school, college, or university buildings, they are likely to create the same environmental effects as other types of infrastructure development projects. As a result, they should be treated the same with respect to environmental assessment.
