Projects in all sectors need to be screened for their potential negative environmental impacts. Infrastructure projects have by now routinely integrated environmental assessments because of the physical works and the potential environmental impacts associated with them.
Recently, concerns have also been expressed about the potential negative impacts of investment projects in other sectors including rural development, health, and education. This is either because of the large quantity of physical works associated with these projects, concerns for the use of potentially hazardous pesticides, or the need to ensure proper waste management particularly for health and HIV/AIDS projects.
