Climate change, including climate variability, has multiple influences on human health. These health impacts include increased incidence of vector- and waterborne diseases such as malaria, dengue, and cholera; increased heat stress mortality; increased damages and deaths caused by extreme weather events. Relationships between year-to-year variations in climate and infectious diseases are most evident where climate variations are marked, and in vulnerable populations. Climate change is a primary concern of the World Bank and its clients. Developing countries are expected to be disproportionately impacted by changes in sea level, warming temperatures, stresses on forest and agricultural systems, health impacts, and increased climate variability. Bank support to clients focuses on both mitigation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as well as reducing vulnerability and adapting to climate change. Natural disaster costs are being captured in costs of environmental degradation studies. à Analytical Studies, Research and Toolkits à Bank Lending à For more information please go to Partners and Publications pages |
