The GEF Council or CEO has approved over 700 projects implemented by the World Bank Group with a total GEF grant amount of over $4.5 billion that are associated with an additional US$27.2 billion in co-financing.
Most full-sized projects are in the climate change (40%) and biodiversity (33%) focal areas. International waters projects represent 11% of the portfolio. The share of projects in the multi-focal area is 8% and the share of ozone depletion projects 3%. Land degradation and Persistent Organic Pollutnants (POPs) represent 2% and 3% of the portfolio. The medium-sized portfolio is dominated by biodiversity projects.

The World Bank Group GEF portfolio includes projects directly managed by the Bank, as well as those managed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Executing Agencies for these projects include governments and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). |
