Medium-Sized Project

Medium-sized projects (MSPs) follow expedited preparation procedures. Along with the Bank's project procedures, each MSP is subject to GEF's project eligibility criteria which are available from the GEF Secretariat.

A project concept can originate from any source, including government, nongovernmental organizations, communities, private sector, ongoing project teams, and individuals.  In general, the first step in the GEF project review process is that a concept should get the support of the GEF Focal Point for the country where the project is expected to be implemented.  The GEF Focal Point reviews the concept and assesses if it is a national priority for GEF assistance.

A majority of the Bank implemented MSPs are executed by local or international NGOs.
