Improving the Quality and Impact of Bank Operations

A core focus under this thrust is improving the poverty focus, impact, and sustainability of World Bank Agriculture and Rural Development operations. This will include development of methods for poverty analysis, and a more explicit integration of gender sensitive poverty analytics and diagnosis in project preparation, design and implementation. There will be a renewed emphasis on fiscal and institutional sustainability, including institutional development, fostering greater project sustainability.
Such a thrust must be underpinned by enhanced training and capacity building both for World Bank staff and clients. This will be achieved through a strengthened partnership with the World Bank Institute and using facilities such as the Global Distance Learning Network.
