The World Bank will support integration of the needs of the rural poor through two avenues.
Firstly it will support rural institutions in client countries in preparing broadly-owned national rural development strategies. It will do this by partnering with all stakeholders, including the rural poor, whose goal is to raise the living standards in rural areas. This includes groups such as agriculture producer organizations, women's organizations, local civil society organizations, local, district, regional and national government, academics and related institutions, and the private sector from small and medium sized enterprises to national and multinational companies.
Secondly, the World Bank undertakes a variety of analytical work in themes related to agriculture and rural development. These shed greater understanding on the causes and consequences of poverty in rural areas and support improved decision-making and policy formulation
