The Bank’s approach to engaging in the forest sector encompasses much more than the implementation of stand alone projects. As outlined in the Forests Strategy, the Bank aims to integrate forest issues into the broad agenda of country dialogue, poverty reduction strategies and economic support. It also aims to build and strengthen partnerships with donor agencies, non-governmental organizations, the Global Environment Fund (GEF), International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the private sector to help mobilize sufficient financing to assist countries to promote the management, conservation and sustainable development of forests.  As of November 2011, the Bank had an active portfolio of 55 operations with forest components, totaling $733 million. The Bank's forests portfolio covers a wide range of forest activities including investments in collaborative forest management and social forestry, forest institutions capacity building, protected areas, and technical assistance for policy reform and for regulatory and enforcement systems.  Explore Project Results  | Mar 14, 2011 | Amazon Region Protected Areas Project (ARPA) | | Sep 14, 2010 | Ghana: Natural Resources and Environmental Governance Program | | Jun 14, 2010 | Albania Natural Resource Development Project | | Mar 12, 2010 | Greening Ethiopia's Great Rift Valley | | Sep 30, 2008 | Croatia's Karst Region Improves Lives | | Jun 04, 2008 | Vietnam's Mangrove Forests Fight Erosion, Improve Livelihoods | | Apr 21, 2008 | Pygmies Use Satellite-Technology to Protect Congolese Forests | | Feb 26, 2008 | World Bank Develops Practical Guidance for Sustaining Forests in Development Cooperation | | Jan 15, 2008 | World Bank Committed to Staying Engaged in Improving Management of Congolese Forests | | Dec 06, 2007 | A Poverty Project That Is Restoring China's Forests | | Dec 06, 2007 | Timber Plantations and Protected Areas Relieve Pressure on China’s Natural Forests | | Mar 15, 2007 | Restoring China's Loess Plateau | | Apr 09, 2007 | Sustainable Woodfuel Improves Rural Livelihoods in Senegal |
