PROFOR is a multi-donor partnership program formed to provide improved information and knowledge on key forest issues related to livelihoods, governance, finance and cross sectoral cooperation. Housed within the World Bank ESSD Forsts Team, PROFOR is closely aligned with the Bank’s Forests Strategy and, in this regard, PROFOR activities comprise analytical and knowledge generating work that support the strategy’s objectives of enhancing forests' contribution to poverty reduction, sustainable development and the protection of environmental services.
Â
At present, PROFOR is coordinating a partnership dedicated to improving understanding of the linkages between forests and poverty reduction. A diagnostic tool for assess such forest poverty linkages is currently being developed through case studies in Guinea, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Nepal, and Tanzania. Outcomes from this work will help strengthen the argument for including forests in Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers and other national level planning tools. PROFOR provides national level support to inform forest sector institution and policy reform processes, and has implemented such activities in countries including Columbia, Honduras, India, Kenya, and Russia. Examples of other PROFOR initiatives include workshops on private sector investments in forests, forest fiscal system reform, and payments for environmental services.
