MIT Legatum Center - Innovation Spotlight Series #1

The Y2Y Youth Innovation Fund (YIF) launched its first “Innovation Spotlight Series” this past Thursday, November 10th, 2011 at the Black Auditorium where young Bank employees gathered to listen and be inspired by four young entrepreneurial minds from MIT.

The speakers were MIT Legatum Center Fellows who are four young entrepreneurs managing different innovative projects they originated in emerging markets through the support of the MIT Legatum Center.

The pioneering projects presented by the four young entrepreneurs were poised to be transformative and create a good margin of jobs in developing economies.  The projects introduced were among the cosmetic, health, mobile and steel industries, targeting different countries such as Morocco, India and Nigeria. 

MIT entrepreneur fellows were truly fueled with innovation which was inspiring and motivating to the young people who were able to attend and participate in this event. Y2Y chairs and members were grateful and inspired to listen to these young pioneering minds from MIT that are changing the world with entrepreneurial ventures, opening numerous opportunities to other young people living in emerging economies with limited resources.

 

Elizabethtown College Students Visit - Y2Y/JPA Collaboration

WASHINGTON, D.C. November 30th, 2011 - A group of students from Elizabethtown College from the state of Pennsylvania visited the World Bank Group headquarters to learn a more about the history of Bank as well as its involvement with youth groups. The event was organized in collaboration with the Y2Y and JPA community, representing two main youth groups of the World Bank. 


Students were excited to know that the Bank hosts engaging platforms for the youth to get involved in important topics and issues concerning the youth in local and international communities such as YouThink , which gathers young people around the world to participate in an online community and be part of the development work that Bank envisions to bring to those communities.

Art Program


Similarly, students enjoyed an Art tour around the MC facilities and learnt about the interesting international background of the different art pieces displayed around the MC building.  Particularly, they appreciated the multiple choices of international food available in the MC cafeteria.  

Ending their visit, some students mentioned that they were inspired to see young staff speaking to them about the wonderful opportunities the Bank offers within its multi-sector diversified fields in DC and the interesting international community it holds in headquarters.
