Introduction to Strategic Communication
This is a self-paced e-learning course that will introduce you to basic concepts on strategic communication. This course consists of three modules (2-3) that are based on the materials from the "Distance Learning Course on Strategic Communication for Development Projects" (module 1 has not been converted to e-learning). You can study these modules at your own time and convenience. The course will help you identify the elements that make strategic communication successful in projects and give you guidance on how to apply concepts learned to a communication strategy. More specifically, upon completion of these modules you will learn how to:
- Distinguish between strategic communication and other forms of communication
- Identify behavior change - rather than knowledge, awareness or even attitude change - as the principle goal of strategic communication
- Identify the four most common ways to influence human behavior
- Select and target audience segments
- Identify the characteristics of communication messages that make them successful
- Write and evaluate communication objectives against these criteria
Each module includes a few activities and will take about 90 minutes to complete. To access the course modules click on the links provided here:
Module 2 - Focusing on the Client
Module 3 - Selecting Feasible Behaviors
Module 4 - Selecting Messages, Channels and Timing that Works
